Gold Worth ₹1.02 Crore Seized at Indo-Bangla Border in Bicycle Tyre

BSF Seizes ₹1.02 Crore Gold Hidden in Bicycle Tyre at India-Bangladesh Border

₹1.02 Crore Gold Seized: BSF Busts Smuggling Attempt at India-Bangladesh Border

In a major breakthrough against cross-border gold smuggling in India, the Border Security Force (BSF) recovered gold biscuits worth ₹1.02 crore from the Indo-Bangladesh border in Malda district, West Bengal. The recovery has strengthened India’s fight against illegal smuggling networks operating along the border.

According to reports, the gold was cleverly hidden inside a bicycle tyre, which was being used to transport the contraband from Bangladesh to India. The smuggling ring expected that a bicycle would not raise suspicion during border checking – but BSF soldiers proved their intelligence once again.

How the Operation Started

The incident occurred at the M.S. Pur Border Outpost, where Troops of 119 Battalion BSF received specific intelligence input that smugglers were going to transport gold by road using the border village route.

Following the information, BSF strengthened surveillance across the border fencing and high-alert patrolling was started.

🕑 Around 2:56 PM, a man with a bicycle was seen moving towards the border.

His movement seemed suspicious, so BSF jawans stopped him for checking. Initially, nothing dangerous was found. But during a deeper inspection, the front tyre appeared swollen and harder than usual, raising doubt.

Hidden Gold Inside Bicycle Tyre — A Smuggling Innovation

On opening the bicycle wheel, the BSF found seven gold biscuits skillfully packed inside the tyre, covered with black tape to avoid detection by scanning or normal touch inspection.

📌 Total seized weight: 816.41 grams
📌 Estimated market value: ₹1,02,40,230

Gold smugglers used this trick to avoid metal detectors and manual frisking, believing that bicycle tyres would be skipped during checking.

Smuggler Escaped in Confusion

As BSF jawans continued inspecting the bicycle, the smuggler suddenly escaped towards a congested residential area.
Taking sudden action could have risked collateral damage to civilians, so troops prioritised public safety.

Later, a full-scale search operation was conducted across nearby locations, but the accused has not yet been arrested.

Gold Officially Handed for Legal Action

After the recovery, the gold biscuits were sealed and taken to the border outpost, weighed in front of authorities and later handed over to the concerned legal agency for further investigation.

The case is now under processing and law enforcement agencies are working to identify the smuggling network.

BSF Appreciates Troops, Warns Smugglers

A senior BSF official applauded the successful seizure and praised the alertness of BSF jawans.
